brewing-information Description

This traditional China green tea for sale is commonly known abroad as "Pearl Tea", deriving its name from its round, tightly rolled leaves and grayish-green color. Our offering is a special grade of Gunpowder Green tea that is comprised of tender leaves that unfold magnificently in your teapot when brewed.

Its sweet fragrance and clean, fresh taste have made Gunpowder Green one of our most popular green tea selections. Containing less caffeine than traditional black teas, green teas are also high in healthy antioxidants!

Brewing Tips: Our Chinese Gunpowder Green tea should be made with cold, filtered water that has been brought to a boil and then allowed to cool for 1 minute (170-180° F). Using one rounded teaspoon of loose tea or one teabag for each cup required, pour the boiling water over the tea leaves. Chinese Gunpowder Green tea brewing time is 2-3 minutes. Once the ideal green tea brewing time has been reached, the leaves should be removed to prevent further steeping. Decant and enjoy!

This became a favorite the first time I ordered it 40+ years ago. "Fun" is not a typical word to describe tea, but watching the leaves unfold as they steep is fun. This tea become bitter if over steeped. Usually 1-2 minutes is plenty for my taste.

I have been drinking a pot of this tea every morning for over four years. If you want a little Zen in your morning as you wind up for the day's activities, this is it. Watch as the tightly balled up leaves slowly unravel and spread in to full, deep green, beautiful leaves - smell the gentle aroma as you slowly pour, and feel "at one" as you sip. Splendid!

I always think of this as "The People's Tea". It has a fuller, tasty, earthy flavor- which is a nice touch if you prefer more body in your green teas than many Japanese style greens. As previous reviewers said, it is great hot or iced and is a popular sun-tea in my house. This is also a very cost-effective tea; you get a big flavor/weight ratio from this and the price is very approachable.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for my order to ship?

We strive to ship orders within 2-3 days of receipt. However, due to the handcrafted nature of our products, combined with inventory limitations, some orders may take longer to ship. If there is a significant delay in shipping your order, we will contact you directly with details.

Are your teas cultivated naturally? Are they Organic?

All our teas are sourced from tea estates, suppliers and importers that we have personally worked with for decades and many for generations! We only purchase teas that have been cultivated naturally, devoid of pesticides and growth agents.

Teas that have the term “Organic” in the products name have gone through additional certification by the country or origin and USFDA. Even though all our products are natural, we are unable to list them as Organic unless they have gone through these steps. Sometimes, this certification can be costly and time consuming for growers. Each country has different regulations, so many sell the teas to us without this extra labeling.

How long does tea stay fresh?

If sealed properly and stored away from extreme hot/cold temps and moisture, tea will stay as flavorful as the day you bought it, even after 18 months.

How long should I brew my tea?

Tea brewing times and water temperature can vary between tea varieties. Please consult this link to find the best method for your tea!
