brewing-information Description

This style of semi-oxidized tea from Taiwan is known for its unique appearance and taste. Falling “in-between” green and black teas on the oxidation scale, Formosa Oolong's dark brown and noticeably twisted leaves produce a vibrant amber cup of tea when brewed.

Produced from carefully selected Formosa tea leaves from Taiwan’s mountainous tea growing regions, this loose leaf Taiwanese oolong tea has a distinctively sweet peach flavor and fruity aroma when brewed.

Brewing Tips: Our Formosa Oolong loose-leaf black tea should be made with cold, filtered water that has been brought to a point just short of boiling (190-200° F). Using one rounded teaspoon of loose leaf tea or one teabag for each cup required, pour the boiling water over the tea leaves. Formosa Oolong tea should be steeped for 3-4 minutes. Once the ideal brewing time has been reached, the leaves should be removed to prevent further steeping. Decant your Formosa Oolong tea and enjoy!

I am so glad that I am the first to review this wonderful tea. I simply adore this tea, it is an excellent value, and has a very pronounced "peach" overtone, and even produces a smooth cup at higher infusion temperatures that would be appropriate to black teas.

I can get at least two good infusions out of it (sometimes three)...I am somewhat ashamed to think just how many times I threw away what I thought to be "spent" leaves! The liquor is probably better described as "nectar", sweet, and inviting, and almost honey-like.

I am reluctant to try any of the fancier grades for the simple reason that this tea ALWAYS gives me what I crave in a Formosa Oolong, and that I might "break the spell" that this delightful tea has over me.

Whatever it is that this tea has makes me come back to it year after year remains a mystery, except for the fact that it has very little variation from year to year; I am a creature of steady habit: I find what I like and I keep with it. I could go on for reams about this tea; I absolutely positively love it

MTW's Formosa Oolong is a classic tea. I have enjoyed it many mornings. It is, in my book, superior to a number of fancy oolongs that cost much more.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for my order to ship?

We strive to ship orders within 2-3 days of receipt. However, due to the handcrafted nature of our products, combined with inventory limitations, some orders may take longer to ship. If there is a significant delay in shipping your order, we will contact you directly with details.

Are your teas cultivated naturally? Are they Organic?

All our teas are sourced from tea estates, suppliers and importers that we have personally worked with for decades and many for generations! We only purchase teas that have been cultivated naturally, devoid of pesticides and growth agents.

Teas that have the term “Organic” in the products name have gone through additional certification by the country or origin and USFDA. Even though all our products are natural, we are unable to list them as Organic unless they have gone through these steps. Sometimes, this certification can be costly and time consuming for growers. Each country has different regulations, so many sell the teas to us without this extra labeling.

How long does tea stay fresh?

If sealed properly and stored away from extreme hot/cold temps and moisture, tea will stay as flavorful as the day you bought it, even after 18 months.

How long should I brew my tea?

Tea brewing times and water temperature can vary between tea varieties. Please consult this link to find the best method for your tea!
