brewing-information Description

Gyokuro is one of Japan's rarest and most prized teas. Its long, slender, dark green leaves are produced by shading the tea plant three weeks before it is hand cut with scissors.

Consisting of only the tender leaf tips, we are pleased to offer this season's recent pickings. Also referred to as Gyokuro Asahina, it yields a greenish-gold color with a mild flavor and incomparable natural flowery aroma when brewed.

Brewing Tips: Our Gyokuro Jade Dew Green tea should be made with cold, filtered water that has been brought to a boil and then allowed to cool for 2 minute (160-170° F). Using one rounded teaspoon of Gyokuro loose leaf green tea or one teabag for each cup required, pour the boiling water over the tea leaves. Gyokuro Jade Dew Green tea should be steeped for 1.5-2 minutes. Once the ideal brewing time has been reached, the leaves should be removed to prevent further steeping. Decant and enjoy!

How Much Tea Do I Need?

1 pound of loose leaf tea will make approximately 160 cups of brewed tea

8 ounces of loose leaf tea will make approximately 80 cups of brewed tea

    Great Value

This selection was the nicest Gyokuro I have had to date. Full of umami, no bitterness, and no caffeine overdose like some gyokuros. Better than ones I have ordered direct from Uji, Japan. Good for three steepings in a kyusu: 1.5 Tbs. of tea, 300 ml of 160 F, 1 minute 20 seconds each steeping.

This is my absolute favorite Japanese Green Tea. It is a beautiful green color with a clean fresh green delicate scent. Brewed as recommended it has a light sweet but full round body taste. However, this tea has such depth of character that you can experiment with the brewing and it will never disappoint. A lesser or greater amount of tea in the pot yields interesting nuances of flavor. I would give it more than 5 stars.

This tea almost defies description, and has re-defined the way I perceive Japanese Green Tea. The leaves are long, slender, shiny and a beautiful dark green, and give off a very delicate yet fragrant aroma.

The labor-intensive processing is evident upon opening the one pound tin and seeing what I might just venture to call "Tea Perfection through Tea Obsession" this tea literally radiates pride and quality, for which the Japanese are so well-known.

The cup is pale, belying the depth of flavor that this soothing tea has to the very last drop, and while not assertive, the tea does have a satisfying presence: this is precious tea here, no question about it, a little goes a long way, and easily gives at least two infusions.

This tea demands careful attention to water temperature and quality, I brew the first pot at 160 degrees F. For two minutes, and I am still experimenting with subsequent infusions, and have produced a good second infusion at 170 F. For three minutes.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for my order to ship?

We strive to ship orders within 2-3 days of receipt. However, due to the handcrafted nature of our products, combined with inventory limitations, some orders may take longer to ship. If there is a significant delay in shipping your order, we will contact you directly with details.

Are your teas cultivated naturally? Are they Organic?

All our teas are sourced from tea estates, suppliers and importers that we have personally worked with for decades and many for generations! We only purchase teas that have been cultivated naturally, devoid of pesticides and growth agents.

Teas that have the term “Organic” in the products name have gone through additional certification by the country or origin and USFDA. Even though all our products are natural, we are unable to list them as Organic unless they have gone through these steps. Sometimes, this certification can be costly and time consuming for growers. Each country has different regulations, so many sell the teas to us without this extra labeling.

How long does tea stay fresh?

If sealed properly and stored away from extreme hot/cold temps and moisture, tea will stay as flavorful as the day you bought it, even after 18 months.

How long should I brew my tea?

Tea brewing times and water temperature can vary between tea varieties. Please consult this link to find the best method for your tea!
