Great tea, must try! A friend shared some with me and I had to buy some for myself! It is now a favorite in the office. It tastes like drinking an awesome smoked campfire! I have drunk this for years. The dry leaves aroma has caused people to beg for some. I consider this the best of all Lapsang Souchongs and the standard by which I rate all others. It is not only smokey, but winey. Both its bouquet and flavor are deep and complex, although sometimes it is a bit light and teasing, almost floral. It is wonderful with bleu cheese, they play off each other superbly. It also keeps it's good flavor if you accidently shove it to the back of your tea cupboard. When he returned from service in China in World War II, my uncle had become a devotee of fine Chinese teas. His favorite and almost exclusive blend was Lapsang Souchong and I remember clearly the can of Hu-Kwa ever present in his kitchen. He introduced me to it when I was in my teens and I too became a devotee of Hu-Kwa. I think of him whenever I brew the tea and especially when I introduce it to a friend. I continue a tradition of almost 70 years in my family with this magnificent tea.

The 1 lb. Refill Bag packaging option can be used to refill an existing tin. Since it is made of high barrier foil with an attractive matte black finish, it can stand alone for tea storage.

Brewing Suggestions

In order to enjoy the unique flavor of your HU-KWA Tea, we recommend brewing using the instructions perfected by Mr. Wendell! Firstly, bring cold, filtered water to a rolling boil (205-212° F). Using one rounded teaspoon of loose tea or one teabag for each cup required, pour the boiling water over the tea leaves. Allow your HU-KWA Tea to steep for 5-5 ½ minutes. Stir, and let the tea settle for about one-half minute. Once the ideal brewing time has been reached, the leaves should be removed to prevent further steeping. HU-KWA Tea is best appreciated when drunk clear. Milk or too much sugar compromises its delicate flavor. A little cream goes well but sugar should be used sparingly.
